AGDQ 2019 raises over $2 million for Prevent Cancer Foundation

Awesome Games Done Quick, the speedrunning event held every January to raise money for charity, has finished up its latest event with a grand total of $2.39 million of donations on behalf of the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Since the event’s beginnings in 2010, GDQ organizers said it has raised over $19 million for numerous charities across many missions, such as the Organization for Autism Research, CURE, and Doctors Without Borders.

The latest event, held over this past week in Rockville, Maryland, saw an attendance of 2,200 in person, with a peak viewership on Twitch of 219,240 viewers.

For those unaware of GDQ, the week-long event is a showcase of some of the best speedrunners in the world who try to complete their chosen game in the quickest amount of time as humanly possible, showcasing speed, some of the more hidden and amazing things about these games, and more.

Incentives to donate are also provided, from the trivial to the funny, such as players dressing up as the characters of the games they’re playing. Viewers who also send in donations are able to have a message attached to them which is more often than not shouted out on air in its entirety.

Summer Games Done Quick, the next event event to be held by GDQ organisers, will be held in Bloomington, Minneapolis between June 23-30 of this year. Awesome Games Done Quick will return in January 2020 in Orlando, Florida.
