Kabam acquires Montreal-based developer, Riposte Games and Co.

Kabam has announced that it has acquired the Montreal-based Riposte Games and Co. As of today, Kabam will take over all publishing and marketing responsibilities for Riposte’s multiplayer real-time strategy game, Mini Guns – Omega Wars, as well as any future Riposte titles.

“With the acquisition of Riposte Games & Co, we are executing on our growth strategy and we are excited to expand into new gaming genres,” said Kabam CEO, Tim Fields. “Riposte’s strategy and simulation gaming experience allows us to grow and diversify our portfolio in 2019.

“They make great games with addictive core loops and strong social experiences, and are the kind of game makers with whom we want to partner in our mission to entertain the world.”

Founded back in 2014 by Ubisoft, Gameloft, and Ludia alumni, Riposte has experience releasing games on ‘midcore’ F2P games across PC and mobile, with their most notably releases: Mini Guns – Omega Wars, Dungeon Stars, and Shop Heroes. Riposte will now operate under the Kabam Montreal banner, and will continue to operate and support currents in conjunction with newer games in development.

Netmarble acquired Kabam in 2017 for $800 million, which has created a very different company from the one that Netmarble was originally interested in. As a result, Kabam has gone through a significant rebranding, creating an updated outward look to better express the internal work that the company and its leadership had undergone.

Kabam launched Kingdoms of Camelot on Facebook in 2010, but hasn’t spent a ton of time in the RTS space. With this latest acquisition, Kabam could find itself firmly in the midcore RTS space in a much more meaningful way than it was able to on its own.

However, news on Kabam Montreal’s newer projects “will be revealed at a later date,” the company added, so we’ll just have to stay put and wait for more information.
